Sam Pitroda to raise India’s EVM issues in front of global media on Jan 25

Mumbai: The President of Indian Overseas Congress and a key member of the erstwhile UPA government in New Delhi has decided to raise the manipulation of the Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) in front of the international media on January 25, 2024.

“This is a matter of trust which a voter has lost when the elections are held using with the EVMs. There are serious concerns being raised about the use of EVMs and we will raise all these issues in front of the international media on January 25, 2024”, Sam Pitroda said talking to The Red Mike YouTube channel run by former NDTV journalists.

Pitroda said the online press conference via Zoom will be held on January 25 because it coincides with the Voters Day.

“January 26 is the Republic Day when we celebrate the Constitution of India whereas January 25 is the National Voters’ Day. This is why we have chosen January 25 for out press conference”, he said.

'Fear of agencies'

Pitroda also said that there is a fear of agencies and people are afraid of raising questions and talking about the issues of national interests.

“One person from New Delhi was supposed to address the press conference on January 25. He however backed out saying he feared his family members will be harassed by the agencies”, Pitroda said.

He said despite all these challenges the press conference will go on as per the announced schedule.

In reply to a question, Pitroda said he will be addressing the press conference as a voter and not as the President of the Indian Overseas Congress.

Raising similar concerns, Pitroda had in the last month said that the ruling BJP could win more than 400 seats if the issues with the Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) are not fixed.

'SC lawyers campaign against EVM'

Sam Pitroda’s press conference to highlight the manipulation of EVMs is scheduled at the backdrop of a team of Supreme Court lawyers who led by Advocate Bhanu Pratap and Mehmood Paracha are running a campaign demanding elections using ballot papers.

The Supreme Court lawyers two weeks ago had also demonstrated at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi how the EVM and VVPAT can be hacked to favour a particular party.

The Election Commission of India meanwhile rejected all these allegations and said the EVMs used in India cannot be hacked.

The commission is also running a counter campaign at various district headquarters and cities to show the EVMs are safe and trustworthy.
