Tel Aviv: Gadi Eisenkot, a minister in Israel’s war cabinet and key ally of Benjamin Netanyahu accused the Israeli Prime Minister of ‘fabricating achievements’ in Gaza war and also withdrew support for his government.

Gadi Eisenkot, former Chief of Staff of the Israeli Occupation Forces and co-founder of National Unity Party, has lost his 25-year son Gal Meir Eisenkot and 19-year-old nephew Cohen Eisenkot in Gaza.

The National Unity Party decided to join Netanyahu’s coalition on emergency basis in a show of political unity following the October 7 Hamas attack.

Gadi Eisenkot continued to support Netanyahu even after losing his son and nephew in the Gaza war that besides killing scores of Israeli soldiers has also killed more than 24,000 Palestinians, majority of them women and children, according to the Health Ministry of Palestine.

Gadi Eisenko however is now criticising Netanyahu’s handling of the war. He also accused Netanyahu of “selling fascinating stories” about the “fabricated achievements in Gaza war”, as reported by the Israeli media.

‘Hostages release not possible without deal’

Speaking with Channel 12’s Uvda investigative program, Gadi Eisenko also lambasted Netanyahu for repeatedly talking about “complete annihilation and absolute defeat of Hamas” saying such claims are “unrealistic”.

“Whoever speaks of absolute defeat is not speaking the truth,” Eisenkot said in the interview. “That is why we should not tell stories… Today, the situation already in the Gaza Strip is such that the goals of the war have not yet been achieved.”

Gadi Eisenko also said that the hostages in the custody of Hamas and other Resistance groups could not be released without a ceasefire deal and pause in war.

“It needs to be said, bravely, that it’s not possible to return the hostages, alive, in the near term, without a deal,” The Times of Israel quoted Gadi Eizenko, blasting “anyone who is trying to sell fantasies to the public.”

‘Hold elections now’

While announcing to withdraw support to Netanyahu’s government, Gadi Eisenko also demanded national elections to what he called “restore public trust”.

“It is necessary, within a period of months, to return the Israeli voter to the polls and hold elections in order to renew trust because right now there is no trust,” said Eisenkot.

Pressed to respond to Netanyahu’s claim that elections in the middle of the war would harm public unity, Eisenkot responded: “The lack of trust from the Israeli public in his government is no less serious.”
