Israel’s safety not at the expense of Palestinians: Princess Reema of Saudi Arabia

Davos (Switzerland): Princess Reema of Saudi Arabia, who is Kingdom’s Ambassador to the United States, said Israel’s safety cannot be at the expense of the Palestinians, categorically ruling out normalization deal with Israel unless the core issue is resolved.

“While Saudi Arabia recognises the need for Israel to feel safe, it cannot be at the expense of the Palestinian people”, Princess Reema and Saudi Envoy to U.S. said while talking to a panel of reporters at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

“The Kingdom has put peace and prosperity which looks at resolving the finite cause of the Palestinian people who deserve a state at the heart of its policy, not the normalization”, she said.

“The Palestinians deserve a pathway that is irrevocable to their situation today. Over 30,000 of them have died. Let’s (also) talk about those who are living. The children whose limbs are amputated. The people who are hiding in churches”, she said.

“That’s not okay in any society to have sewage running around. This is not a solution to peace and sovereignty. It’s not a path to safety”, she said.

Stating that Oct 7 Hamas attack was horrible, Princess Reema said we have to go to the root cause of the instability in the region.

“75 years of occupation which led to a plethora spelling violence across our region. The solution (hence) is a two state solution”, she said.

"CEASEFIRE NOW"

Talking at Davos 2024, Princess Reema also batted very strongly for immediate end to the Israeli massacre of Palestinians in Gaza.

“What we can do now is ceasefire. How many more children need to die? How many more limbs need to be lost? How many more parents need to lose their livelihood? It can’t happen anymore”, she said.

“At the end of the day we are all human beings and the human beings today must say CEASEFIRE NOW”, Princess Reema said.

Gaza latest update

The Israeli bombing on Gaza since Oct 7 has killed at least 25,700 people and left injured 63,740 Palestinians as on Wednesday January 24, 2024. Over 7,000 Palestinians are missing and presumed dead, according to the Health Ministry of Palestine.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA meanwhile on Wednesday reported “mass casualties” as training centre sheltering tens of thousands of displaced Palestinians in Khan Younis catches fire after being struck amid fierce fighting.

“One hour ago, it seems that three shells have been landed inside the training centre of Khan Younis that belongs to UNRWA,” the spokesman of the UN agency said, adding that a “building has been set on fire” and that “there are many casualties”.

According to Al Jazeera, Israeli forces continue tank-and-drone strikes on Khan Younis City killing at least 210 people over the past 24 hours.

The Palestinians in Gaza are also facing acute shortage of drinking water, food, medicines and other essential amenities because of the Israeli blockade of the Gaza Strip.
