Rahul Gandhi blasts Hindutva gang over hate mongering, BJP fumes

New Delhi: In a fiery speech filled with inter-religion references Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi Monday July 01, 2024 slammed the Hindutva gang over hate mongering, leaving the BJP MPs in the Lok Sabha fuming.

"(The irony is) there are those who call them Hindus, but all the time, 24 hours, indulge in hate mongering", Rahul Gandhi said while responding to the Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address in the Lok Sabha Monday.

Rahul Gandhi's remarks infuriated the BJP MPs and triggered uproar in the house. As the BJP MPs protested, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah intervened saying that Rahul Gandhi has made serious allegations and he must apologised.

Rahul Gandhi however remained unfazed and doubled down his allegations and directly accused the ruling BJP of indulging in hate and violence.

“The BJP does nothing but talks about violence and hate thus spreading fear in the society which is against the teachings of Hindu gods who ask the followers to refrain from fear mongering”, Rahul Gandhi said in the Lok Sabha.

Rahul’s remarks sparked another round of outrage in the treasury benches with the BJP MPs accusing Rahul Gandhi of insulting the Hindus and Hindu religion.

But Rahul Gandhi shot back saying:

“Narendra Modi is not the entire Hindu society. BJP is not the entire Hindu society. RSS is not the entire Hindu society. This is not BJP's contract”, he said.

Rahul Gandhi’s slammed the Modi government over hate mongering and violence days after ummid.com questioned the silence of LoP, Congress Party and other opposition leaders on the issue. Soon after ummid.com published its report, some other journalists and activists also raised the issue through different media platforms.

On June 29, Indian Muslims for Civil Rights (IMCR) called a meeting of the newly elected MPs in New Delhi and urged them to raise the issue of hate crimes, mob lynching – brutal murder of 04 Muslims in the span of just one week, and demolitions of homes belonging to Muslims without due judicial process.

In the meantime, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken too censored Modi-led NDA government and questioned the deteriorating situation in India vis-à-vis religious freedom, hate crimes and demolition of homes.

Heavy Sloganeering in Lok Sabha

On Monday, as Rahul Gandhi raised from his chair to begin his address, the ruling party MPs shouted “Bharat Mata ki Jai” and “Modi, Modi”.

The Congress MPs responded with counter slogan “Jai Constitution”.

“The last ten years have seen a systematic attack on the Constitution of India and attacks on the people standing to safeguard the Constitution of the country”, he said.

Rahul Gandhi carried with him portraits and photographs of Hindu lords and symbols of other religions.

“No religion, including the Hindu religion, preaches hate and violence. Islam, Christianity, Sikhism and Buddhism. Go through the teachings of any religion. No religion talks about hate and violence. No religion talks about hate mongering”, Rahul said.

“But here we see the BJP… the party which all the time talks about hate, hate and hate”, he said as PM Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other BJP leaders watched.

“The minorities - Muslims, Sikhs, Christians… they always stand by the country like a hard rock. But you are spreading hate and inciting violence against them”, he said.

In his over 1 hr and 40 minute long address, Rahul Gandhi also talked about the students grievances over medical entrance NEET UG 2024, unemployment and concerns of youth about Agniveer Scheme, inflation, farmers' demands and other burning issues facing the country today.
