For Rahul Gandhi, Hate Crimes, Mob Lynching of Muslims not of any concern

Mumbai: Congress leader and MP Rahul Gandhi Monday June 24, 2024 presented what he called the report card of 15 days of Narendra Modi’s 3rd term.

But, tactically or possibly fearing backlash, Rahul Gandhi ignored to mention hate crimes against Muslims, mob lynching in the name of animal slaughter and razing of homes of Muslims by bulldozers that have resurfaced with renewed vigor after the 2024 General Elections.

In a post on social media platform X, originally launched as Twitter, Rahul Gandhi listed 10 things to highlight the failure of the Modi led NDA government.

"First 15 days of NDA!

      1. Horrific train accident
      2. Terrorist attacks in Kashmir
      3. The plight of passengers in trains
      4. NEET scam
      5. NEET PG cancelled
      6. UGC NET paper leak
      7. Milk, pulses, gas, toll and expensive
      8. Forests blazing with fire
      9. Water crisis
      10. Deaths due to lack of arrangements during heat wave

Psychologically on the backfoot, Narendra Modi is busy saving his government. The attack on the Constitution by Narendra Modi and his government is not acceptable to us - and we will not allow this to happen under any circumstances.

INDIA's strong opposition will continue its pressure, raise the voice of the people, and will not allow the Prime Minister to escape without accountability", Rahul Gandhi wrote on X.

Of course, the issues raised by Rahul Gandhi here are important. But his social media post came as at least 04 Muslims were killed in mob lynching by the so called cow vigilantes - 03 in Chhattisgarh and 01 in Uttar Pradesh, in the last two weeks. The question is why he chose to ignore such a sensitive issue which directly relates to the security of the largest minority groups in India?

The Hindutva goons, who become “animal rights activist” every year at the time of Eid al Adha, created ruckus in Maharashtra, Telangana and some other states in th second week of the ongoing month.

In Telangana, which is ruled by Rahul Gandhi’s own Congress Party, a Madrasa was attacked for bringing the animals for sacrifice. In a worst display of hate crimes, the hospital where Muslims injured in the Hindutva mob attack were getting treatment, too was attacked.

Dozens of homes belonging to Muslims were razed to ground by bulldozers in Akbar Nagar area of Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh.

Homes of 11 Muslims were bulldozed in Madhya Pradesh as the administration claimed they had stored beef in their refrigerators again in the last two weeks.

The troll army backed by the Hindutva extremist groups are in action again. UP Chief Minister has called a meeting of his Hindu Yuva Vahini after about 07 years. The motive of this meeting is unclear but it is seen as an attempt to further communalize the already charged situation.

However, for Rahul Gandhi the hate crimes, mob lynching and demolition of homes of Muslims on the pretext of one reason or the other, and the security of Indian Muslims are not case fit to highlight the Modi government’s failure.

Rahul Gandhi and other Congress leaders, and also all leaders of opposition parties, were afraid of even mentioning the word “Muslim” in their election speeches. Despite this, Muslims vehemently voted in favour of the secular candidates, including those from the Congress.

In fact it is being openly alleged that the Muslims are being punished by the Hindutva goons and the BJP ruled states for voting in favour of the secular parties.

The BJP leaders are calling out Muslims for voting in favour of the secular parties.

“We were fighting with 04 parties not 03. Congress, NCP (Pawar), Shiv Sena (UBT), and Muslims”, Maharashtra Deputy CM Fadnavis reportedly told after the party’s debacle in Maharashtra.

There is also a section mocking Muslims for casting their votes in favour of the Congress and other ‘secular’ parties.

“You voted for them but they don’t stand by you!” a social media user wrote on X after the incidents of mob lynching.

The Congress and the other opposition parties must also have realized this fact. The Congress party is holding thanksgiving rallies after the election results. But, the party is afraid of publicly acknowledging the support Muslims extended to it in the elections.

Not acknowledging the Muslim support in public and ignoring to mention “Muslims” in election speeches for political reasons can be understood. But, not speaking against hates crimes, mob lunching and demolition of homes of Muslims should not be acceptable.

Muslims have played a major role in the 234 seats, including 100 seats of the Congress, the INDIA alliance has won. In return, the Muslims are not asking for any plum post. But Rahul Gandhi and the Congress should at least have the courtesy to speak up and raise the issue of the security of Muslims in the Parliament and in Public.

This is high time the Muslim leaders in New Delhi and various states meet the Congress leadership, and also the leaders of other opposition parties, and seek without mincing words clarity about their stand on hate crimes, mob lynching and demolition of homes belonging to Muslims.

Rahul Gandhi talks about opening ‘Mohabbat Ki Dukaan in Nafrat ke Bazzar’. It is time now to ask him whether Muslims too have any place in his Mohabbat Ki Dukan or not.
