New Delhi: Giving a big jolt to the ruling Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) INDIA alliance candidates won 10 of the 13 Assembly Seats that went to the polls Thursday July 11, 2024.

According to the final results announced by the Election Commission of India (ECI), among the INDIA alliance partners Congress and All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) won 04 seats each whereas Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) won 01 seat each.

The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) could win just two seats while 01 seat is won by an independent candidate.

July 2024 by-poll results: Congress bags 04 seats

In Nalagarh assembly seat of Himachal Pradesh, Congress candidate Hardeep Singh Bawa bagged a total of 34,608 and defeated K. L. THAKUR of the BJP by a margin of 8,990 votes.

Dehra is the other assembly constituency of Himachal Pradesh where the by election was held. The seat is won by Kamlesh Thakur, who defeated Hoshyar Singh of the BJP by 9,399 votes.

Kamlesh Thakur is wife of Himacal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.

The 3rd seat Congress won is Manglaur assembly constituency in Uttarakhand. Here Qazi Mohammad Nizamuddin defeated his nearest rival of the BJP, Kartar Singh Bhadana, by a slender margin of just 422 votes.

Ubaidur Rahaman (Monty), who contested as the BSP candidate, secured 19,559 votes and could have played spoiler for the Congress candidate. He however failed.

It was alleged during the polling in Manglaur that Muslim voters were forcibly stopped from voting.

In a major upset for the BJP, its candidate Rajendra Singh Bhandari lost the Badrinath assembly seat to Lakhapat Singh Butola of Congress.

After the poll results, comparison is being made between the BJP's loss in Badrinath with Ayodhya. Like Ayodhya, Badrinath is also a temple town.

TMC bags 04 seats

The All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) of Mamata Banerji won all the 04 seats of West Bengal where by-elections were held.

According to the final result announced by the Election Commission, TMC candidates Krishna Kalyani won the Raiganj seat, MUKUT MANI ADHIKARI won the Ranaghat Dakshin seat, Madhuparna Thakur won the Bagda seat and Supti Pandey bagged the Maniktala seat.

On all 04 seats, BJP candidates came second.

Elsewhere in the country, Anniyur Siva of the ruling DMK won Vikravandi seat whereas Mohinder Bhagat of AAP won the Jalandhar West seat.

The BJP could win just 02 seats - Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh and Amarwara in Madhya Pradesh.

Rupauli in Bihar is the lone seat where Independent candidate Shankar Singh defeated all the candidates of the mainstream parties including Janata Dal (U), and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).

Shankar Singh had earlier won the seat as Lok Janshakti Party candidate.
