New Delhi: Joining the chorus demanding re-examination of the medical entrance NEET IG 2024, senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi accused the Narendra Modi government of colluding with paper lead racket.
In a social media post, hours before Narendra Modi took oath as Prime Minister for a 3rd term, Congress MP from Wayanad and Rae Bareli, said he will be the voice of the students in the Parliament and raise their issues.
"Narendra Modi has not even taken oath yet and the scam in NEET exam has devastated more than 24 lakh students and their families. Six students from the same exam centre top the exam with maximum marks. Many get such marks which are technically not possible. But the government is continuously denying the possibility of paper leak," Rahul Gandhi wrote on social media platform X, originally launched as Twitter.
"Congress had made a robust plan to deal with this 'paper leak industry' which is being run in collusion with the education mafia and the government machinery. In our manifesto, we had pledged to free the students from paper leak by making a law," he added.
He further said that he will be the voice of the students and youth in the Parliament and raise all issues concerning them.
"Today, I assure all the students of the country that I will become your voice in the Parliament and strongly raise the issues related to your future. The youth have expressed confidence in INDIA - INDIA will not allow their voice to be suppressed," he said.
The National Testing Agency had conducted NEET UG 2024 on May 05, 2024 at 4,750 centres in 571 cities for which close to 24 lakh students had appeared amid the reports of paper leak.
The NTA announced the NEET UG 2024 result on June 04, 2024 – ten days ahead of the scheduled time.
According to the NEET result data released by the NTA, a total of 67 students from different states of India have scored a perfect 100% marks i.e. 720 out of the total 720. Six students who scored 100% marks and jointly shared the All India Rank 1 (AIR 1) are from the same centre in Haryana.
Students are alleging that inflation of marks has led to a record 67 candidates getting the top rank. The NTA however denies all these allegations saying changes in the NCERT textbooks and grace marks for losing time at the examination centres are some of the reasons behind the students scoring higher marks.
Rahul Gandhi's allegations against Modi government came a day after the Ministry of Education formed a committee to probe the allegations of irregularities in the medical entrance NEET UG 2024.
Earlier, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, senior Congress leaders Priyanka Gandhi, Jairam Ramesh and other too have raised serious questions on the conduct of NEET UG entrance exam.
The Maharashtra government taking note of the allegations raised by the students even said it was considering to seek legal help on the matter.
The National Testing Agency and Ministry of Education on their part refute all these allegations and said the exam was held with total transparency.
