Parliament’s 1st session after 2024 LS elections from June 24

New Delhi: Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju Wednesday said the first session of the 18th Lok Sabha will be from June 24, 2024.

The first session of the Parliament after the 2024 Lok Sabha elections will commence on June 24 and continue till July 03, 2024, he said.

Kiren Rijiju further said that the 264th Session of the Rajya Sabha – the Upper House of the Indian Parliament, will commence on June 26 and conclude on July 03, 2024.

Newly elected members of the Lok Sabha will take oath during the session. After that the election of Speaker and Deputy Speaker will take place.

“First Session of the 18th Lok Sabha is being summoned from 24.6.24 to 3.7.24 for oath/affirmation of newly elected Members, Election of Speaker, President’s Address and discussion thereon”, the minister said.

President's address to Joine Session

President Droupadi Murmu will address a joint sitting of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha on June 27 and is likely to outline the new government’s roadmap for the next five years.

The new Lok Sabha will see a rejuvenated opposition as it has increased its strength after the 2024 Lok Sabha Polls.

The last Lok Sabha had a total of 303 BJP members. This time the tally of the BJP has reduced to 240 and that of the NDA from 353 to 292.

Similarly, the Congress which had just 52 members will have 101 party MPs. The opposition NDA alliance will also have a strength of 234 of the total 543 seats in the house.

The debate on the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address hence is expected to see an aggressive opposition trying to corner the NDA government on various issues.

Narendra Modi, who took oath as Prime Minister for the 3rd term Sunday, will respond to the debate on the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address in both the Houses of Parliament.
