New Delhi: Names of as many as 6 Muslims figured in the 3rd list of 57 candidates released by the Congress Party Thursday for the 2024 Parliamentary elections.
The ruling Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday also released its 3rd list of 09 candidates. None of them is a Muslim.
Among the six Muslims confirmed by the Congress for the 2024 Lok Sabha Polls 01 is from Karnataka and 05 are from West Bengal.
Releasing its 3rd list for the 2024 General Elections, the lead opposition party said Mansoor Ali Khan will contest from the Bangalore Central Parliamentary Constituency in Karnataka.
The Congress has also fielded Ali Imran Ramz (Victor) from Raiganj Lok Sabha Seat, Mostaque Alam from Maldaha Uttar seat, Isha Khan Chowdhary from Maldaha Dakshin seat, Md Murtoja Hossain (Bokul) from Jangipur Lok Sabha Seat and Milton Rashid from Birbhum Lok Sabha seat - all in West Bengal.
Mansoor Ali Khan who will contest from Bangalore Central Parliamentary Constituency is the son of K. Rahman Khan – former Union Minister and Ex-Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha.
Isha Khan Chowdhary who has been fielded by the Congress from the Maldaha Dakshin Lok Sabha seat belongs to the family of veteran Congress leader and former Union Minister Ghani Khan Choudhury.
Ali Imran Ramz fielded by the Congress from the Raiganj Lok Sabha Seat is son of Mohammad Ramzan Ali, a Forward Bloc leader and four time MLA in West Bengal Assembly from Goalpokhar. Ali Imran had won the 2009 West Bengal Legislative Assembly Elections, becoming the youngest MLA in the house.
Mostaque Alam who will contest the 2024 Elections from Maldaha Uttar seat is sitting MLA from Harishchandrapur assembly seat of West Bengal. He also serves as. President of District Congress Committee in Malda West Bengal and a Member AICC.
Milton Rashid is fromer MLA from Hansan Assembly constituency of West Bengal. He had lost the 2021 West Bengal Assembly Elections to Ashok Kumar Chattopadhyay of All India Trinamool Congress Party (TMC) from the same seat.
With the inclusion of six more Muslims in its 3rd list, the Congress has confirmed 20 Muslims who will contest for the 2024 General Elections.
In its 3rd list, Congress has confirmed the names of 7 candidates in Maharashtra, 11 in Gujarat, 17 in Karnataka, 02 in Arunachal Pradesh, 06 in Rajasthan, 05 in Telangana, 08 in West Bengal and 01 in Puducherry.
The Congress had included the names of 02 Muslims each in its first list released on March 08 and the second list released on March 12, 2024.
The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) on the other hand has so far fielded only 01 Muslim in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The lone Muslim so far fielded by the BJP is Dr Abdul Salam who will contest the 2024 Elections from the Malappuram Parliamentary seat – a Muslim dominated district and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) bastion in Kerala.
