New Delhi: The Congress Party Friday released its first list of 30 candidates for the 2024 Parliamentary Elections.

Besides others, the Congress has confirmed the names of two Muslims – Shafi Parambil and Mohammad Hamdullah Sayeed, as the party candidates for the 2024 General Elections.

Shafi Parambil

Shafi Parambil has been fielded from the Vadakara, also known as Vatakara, Lok Sabha Constituency in Kerala. Vadakara is comprised of 07 Assembly Constituencies including Thalassery, Kuthuparamba, Vatakara, Kuttiady, Nadapuram, Koyilandy and Perambra. While the Thalassery assembly seat is in Kerala's Kannur district, the rest six are in Kozhikode.

Shafi Parambil, an MBA, is a Member of Kerala Legislative Assembly (KLA) from the Palakkad Assembly Constituency of the state. Shafi has won the state election from this seat three times – 2011, 2016 and 2021.

41-year-old Shafi started his Political Career as a Students’ leader. He was appointed General Secretary of the Indian Youth Congress in 2017 of which he is currently the State President.

The Congress Party is winning Vadakara Parliamentary seat since 2009 and is currently represented by K. Muraleedharan. Muraleedharan has been shifted to the Thrissur Parliamentary Seat to contest as Congress candidate for 2024 LS Polls.

Mohammad Hamdullah Sayeed

Muhammed Hamdulla Sayeed has been fielded from the Lakshadweep, a Parliamentary Constituency reserved for Scheduled Tribes (STs). It is the smallest Lok Sabha constituency in India in terms of number of voters, and represents the entire area of the Union Territory.

Hamdullah is the son of veteran Congress leader and former MP Lakshadweep P.M. Sayeed. Hamdullah had won the 2009 Lok Sabha election at the age of 26 to become the youngest MP ins the 15th Lok Sabha.

Mohd Hamdullah however lost the 2014 and 2019 Parliament Elections to Mohammed Faizal of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

Other prominent names in the Congress list for the 2024 LK Polls are that of Rahul Gandhi (Wayanad), K.C. Venugopal (Alappuzha), Dr Shashi Tharoor (Thiruvananthapuram) and Bhupesh Baghel (Rajnandgaon).

The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) had on March 02, 2024 released its first list of 195 candidates for the 2024 elections. The list had the name of lone Muslim, Dr Abdul Salam, who has been fielded from the Malappuram Parliamentary in Kerala.
