As many as six planets will line up in the sky early June offering sky gazers a chance to witness a rare astral vista.
Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune will be in a planetary alignment in June first week, offering an extraordinary opportunity to witness this cosmic phenomenon.
Planetary alignment is a term used to describe the positioning of planets in the solar system such that they appear to be in a straight line or close to one another when viewed from a specific vantage point from Earth.
This phenomenon is more an illusion of perspective rather than the planets being actually in a perfect line in space.
Though rare the last time such an event was witnessed in June 2022 when Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn along with also Moon came in a row for a rare planetary conjunction visible to the naked eye.
Sky gazers however should note that the six planets - Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune, will be aligned together in 10 to 12 days from now, not all of them will be visible to the naked eyes.
This will be because of their vast distance from the Earth. The Moon will also play a spoilsport as it will distort the visibility of the planets.
Astronomers said of the six planets, Mars and Saturn will be visible to the naked eye, though very dim. On the other hand, observers will need telescopes or high-powered binoculars to spot the distant planets Uranus and Neptune.
The remaining two in the planetary conjunction, Mercury and Jupiter, will be tricky to see in the sky due to their proximity to the Sun in their orbit.
