Malegaon:
Thousands thronged the rally oganised against the Maharashtra Government and Anti Terrorism Squad
(ATS) yesterday late in the evening even as today’s Malegaon Bandh call given by Janata
Dal (S) received mixed response.
The demonstrations that were
also supported by Kul Jamaati Tanzeem and other local organizations
were held to express the anger over, what they called as, the
lackluster attitude of the State Government and Anti Terrorism Squad
(ATS) towards the accused arrested in the 2008 Malegaon blast case
that led to the dismissal of stringent Maharashtra Control of
Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) by the special court.
“After the court verdict, they say it
was some mistakes in papers that the court dismissed the MCOCA
charges against the accused. They had mistaken in Nanded. They had
mistaken even in Poorna and Prabhani. Why did they not commit any
mistake in the 2006 Malegaon blast case and other cases in which the accused are
Muslim youths”, veteran socialist leader and former minister Nehal
Ahmad said as the crowd numbering thousands raised slogans
against the State Government and ATS.
Stating that he has been told Ashok
Chavan had given the statements in support of the Hindu terrorists
who were involved in bomb making in Nanded, Nehal Ahmad said, “Ashok
Chavan is the Chief Minister in Maharashtra and Raghuvanshi in whose
tenure as ATS Chief the accused in 2006 Nanded blast case were freed
is reinstated to the post again. The respite to the 2008 Malegaon
blast accused seems to be having its roots in this.”

“The police that remained mute spectators when the communal forces
were showering flowers over the Hindu terrorists in Nashik refrain us from holding peaceful demonstrations.” |
Stating that he did not wish to
comment on the court order owing to the respect to the judicial
system, he said, "The court decides on the details provided by the
prosecution. It is the prosecution that has created the mess and it
seems keeping an eye on the ensuing assembly elections, the
government is lenient towards the criminals who were not
only involved in killing the innocent people in Malegaon but also
planned to overthrow the Indian government."
During the rally, the veteran socialist
leader also questioned the attitude of the police
department that was not ready to give the permission for the
dharna and rally. “The town has always been anti Muslim League
and is famous for its nationalist thinking. The town even sacrificed
precious lives during the freedom struggle. Yet the police that remained mute spectators when the communal forces
were showering flowers over the Hindu terrorists in Nashik refrain us from holding peaceful demonstrations", he said in front
of the huge gathering on August 11 late in the evening that was held
at the same place where the blast had occurred on September 29 in
2008.
Malegaon Bandh
Along with the late evening rally on
August 11, Janata Dal (S) has also called a day long Malegaon
Bandh today on August 12 to protest against the government
attitude towards the 2008 blast accused. The Bandh received
mixed response and though powerloom factories and markets in a
particular area in the town remained closed, others were at work as
usual. Schools and colleges too were busy with the routine academic
activities.
Earlier in the morning, Nehal Ahmad
led a Satygrah Morcha towards the City police station that
was stopped by the police near the Ambedkar Chowk. Protestors led by
Nehal Ahmad were later whisked away to City police station in police
vehicles.
Meanwhile, Malegaon remained fully
peaceful and no untoward incident reported from any part of the town
during the two day agitation.
