Showcause notice issued to staff for not singing Gandhian prayer

Tuesday, March 23, 2010 03:48:19 PM, UNI

Kendrapara: The local urban cooperative bank of Kendrapada has penalised its employees for not singing the popular Gandhian prayer violating the bank rules.

All the staff members, including the Bank Branch manager, were served showcause notices on Saturday for their failure to sing Gandhian prayer before commencing their daily work.

''A day's salary of the staff members has been held up. All have been asked to explain the circumstances leading to the skipping of the prayer,'' said Bank Secretary Sushil Kumar Samal.

A rule was framed by the urban cooperative bank where it was made mandatory for all the staff members to chant ''Vaishnav jan to'' every day before commencing the daily work.

But for some reason, the staff did not chant the prayer on Saturday before the commencement of work. After the lapse was detected, disciplinary action was initiated, said Samal.

''The introduction of 'vaishnav jan' prayer in our bank is a tribute to Bapu. In no other banking organisation in this region, Gandhiji is remembered everyday in such a manner,'' Samal stated.
