'Delhi government schools performed best in CBSE exams'

New Delhi: The usually staid and quiet school administrative offices Monday reverberated with squeals of delight and laughter and congratulatory remarks as the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announced its Class 12 examinations results.

Initial disbelief gave way to euphoria and celebrations as several students appearing in the Class 12 exams found that they had topped in their school after the results were declared Monday.

Kshitij Jain, who topped the Delhi Public School (DPS), R.K.Puram, securing 98 percent in the science stream, said: "I expected about 94-95 percent, but what I have got is like a dream come true."

He has also bagged a good rank in IIT-JEE and aims to go to IIT- Delhi.

"He has always been a bright student, and he really worked hard. We were happy when we got to know that he had cleared the IIT result with flying colours, but today we are the happiest. What more could we ask for? He has topped the Delhi region," said Kshitij's mother.

With a round of sweets, D.R. Saini, principal of DPS-R.K. Puram, announced that all previous records have been broken this year, with commerce scores being 97.6 percent and humanities 97.4 percent.

"There are no tricks for success. Hard work and listening to teachers' and parents' advice leads to success," said Ipshita Agarwal, who topped the commerce stream.

An elated Ipshita wants to study B.Com Honours from the prestigious Sri Ram College of Commerce.

Some students were rather surprised by the results.

"I am pleasantly surprised as I was expecting around 80 percent and got 90 percent. I am planning to go for Bachelors in Business Management from Delhi University and then do MBA," said an elated Ankita Mehra, a student of Somerville School, Vasundhra Enclave.

For Rakshit Garg, a student of Cambridge School, Srinivaspuri, in South Delhi, it was a euphoric moment as he could not clear the exam last year but cleared the exams this year with 60 percent marks.

"I am very happy as last year I could not clear the exams. I studied hard and managed to pass this year," said Garg, who wants to pursue a career in shoe designing.

A total of 816,000 students had appeared for the exam this year, an increase of 5.94 percent over the figure last year.

Girls outperformed boys once again with a pass percentage of 86.21 percent against the 75.80 percent for boys.

Chennai recorded the highest pass percentage of 90.59 percent among eight CBSE regions. The overall India pass percentage among the eight CBSE regions is 80.19.
