Now, Maharashtra governor transferred
Sunday August 24, 2014 11:37 AM, IANS

K. Sankaranarayanan, the governor of Maharashtra, was Sunday transferred and appointed as the Mizoram governor for the remainder of his term, the Rashtrapati Bhavan said.

A press communique said Gujarat Governor Om Prakash Kohli "will discharge the functions of the governor of Maharashtra, in addition to his own duties, until regular arrangement for the office of the governor of Maharashtra are made".

The appointment of Sankaranarayanan, 82, as the governor of Mizoram follows after Kamla Beniwal was sacked Aug 7 on charges of misusing the governor's office.

Sankaranarayanan was appointed the governor of Maharashtra for the second time in 2012, and his current term in office ends in 2017.

Prior to this, he served as the governor of Jharkhand and Nagaland for a total period of three years.

After Beniwal was sacked, former union home secretary Vinod Kumar Duggal had been given the charge of Mizoram.
