Bangalore: Education solutions provider K2 Learning Resources Friday unveiled a tablet - TabLab - to access textbooks and relevant materials on trendy gadgets by teachers and students in the commerce stream.
K2 Learning has also roped in three city-based start-ups - Edutor Technologies, Notion Ink and Global ITeS to bring education on tablets in view of the increasing usage of electronic devices by the student fraternity.
"TabLab digitises textbook content to create an interactive medium to meet learning needs of students in the form they would like. It offers portability and convenience, as it can be used within and outside classrooms," K2 founder Sripal Jain said on the occasion.
Though the company is focusing on loading TabLab with commerce content in the initial phase, it plans to use the device for other subjects later.
"We are targeting to install TabLabs in 20 colleges across the city in the first year to usher in a personalised approach in commerce education," Jain said.
Besides focusing on commerce stream, TabLab offers customised content for professional courses such as chartered accountancy and for company secretaries.
A primary feature of TabLab is the dynamic method of presenting matter. Quizzes and interactive lectures facilitate better learning and are instrumental for tracking students' growth.
"As TabLab aims at developing critical thinking in students, every word spoken or presented is backed by logical reasoning and examples," Jain said.
"We believe that TabLab brings in a win-win situation for educators and students. With features like animation display, audio books and games and activities, the tablet offers an interactive mode of communication between students and teachers," he said.
Noting TabLab is not a solution but an entire system of active, accelerated and fun learning, he said: "The need of the hour is to offer technology solutions that add value to learning process. This is the prime motive that inspired us to come up with TabLab."
Edutor co-founder Ramesh Karra said years of research and networking with industry experts helped them to identify the need to create a novel way to experience education.
K2 Learning also offers coaching classes for students of chartered accountancy, company secretary and pre-university course in commerce.
Apart from providing content in formats like PowerPoint presentations, flash videos, notes and crash course material, the company publishes in-house books, develops content that can be made available on tablets, internet or compact discos.
