BJP to retain Gujarat, though with lesser seats: Exit Polls

Mumbai:
The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) will retain power in Gujarat, though with less number of seats as compared to its tally in 2012, Exit Polls said Thursday after polling for the two phase election in the state ended today evening.

BJP will win a total of 109 seats whereas Congress will get 70 seats, Times Now-VMR survey released today evening said.

As per the ABP-CSDS Exit Polls BJP will win 91-99 seats whereas Congress will win 78-86 seats. ABP has tied up with CSDS (Centre for the Study of Developing Societies) for the exit poll.

Republic-Jan Ki Baat prediction for Gujarat is 108 seats for BJP and 74 seats for Congress.

Likewise, NDTV Poll of Polls gives BJP: 112 seats and Congress 70.

Similarly, SAHARA SAMAY-CNX survey shows BJP will get 110-120 seats and Congress getting 65-75 seats. The NewsX-CNX Exit Poll numbers put the BJP at 115 and Congress at 65.

India Today-Axis My India exit polls says BJP is winning 99-113 seats and Congress getting 68-82 seats.

The only exception is CNN-News18 Mega Poll of Polls which gives 125 seats to BJP and 57 seats to Congress.

Gujarat has seen a bitter contest between Congress and BJP - which is ruling the state since 1995. While BJP camaign was led by Prime Minister Modi and BJP president Amit Shah, Rahul Gandi led the Congress campaign with vigour and substance.

In 2012 elections, BJP had won 117 seats with a vote share of 64.28% whereas Congress had won 59 seats, 32.42 %

The 182-seat Gujarat assembly saw polls in two phases — 89 seats on December 9 and 93 seats on December 14.

Counting of votes will be done on Decmber 18, 2017.
