Paris: A number of French activists announced here on Tuesday an open-ended hunger strike in solidarity with hunger-striking Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.
The hunger-striking activists issued a statement saying that their strike is aimed at exposing the inhumane conditions endured by Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.
They called on Israel to respond to the demands of the Palestinian prisoners of liberty regarding the implementation of the standards set out by all international covenants and conventions for the treatment of prisoners.
In their statement, the French activists called for the cancellation of penalties imposed on the Palestinian people, stressing that these penalties, such as the indefinite administrative detention and detention of children, are in violation of international laws. They also called for ending the inhumane treatment of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails and ensuring their right to treatment and education.
The activists' strike and sit-in at the Square of Innocents in Paris come as part of a series of activities being organized by the French solidarity associations with the Palestinian people, in coordination with Palestine Embassy in France, to support the steadfastness of the hunger strikers and mobilize the French public opinion in favor of their cause.
More than 1,600 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails continue their open hunger strike for the 24th consecutive on Wednesday to demand improvement of their poor living conditions.
