Amitabh Bachchan, who currently has 32.9 million followers on Twitter, has recently posted about quitting the microblogging site.
Bachchan, in his tweet, mentions that his followers were reduced and hence, 'it's time to get off.'
"TWITTER..!!!?? You reduced my number of followers.. !!??HAHAHAHAHAHAHA .. !! That's a joke .. time to get off from you .. thank you for the ride .... there are many 'other' fish in the sea - and a lot more exciting!" Bachchan wrote on Twitter.
Incidentally, the fall in number of Bachchan's followers were noticed days after he met Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu while his visit to Mumbai. Bachchan and his family met Netanyahu even as other bollywood bigwigs and filmstars chose to stay away.
Some news reports also speculated that the fall in the number of Amitabh Bachchan’s Twitter followers was hurting him as he now lags behind Superstar Shah Rukh Khan on the social media site.
Interestingly, Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan and Salman Khan, were among the top Bollywood stars besides Mahesh Bhatt, Javed Akhtar, Shabana Azmi, Saif Ali Khan, Katrina Kaif, Kangana Ranaut, Deepika Padukone and others who stayed away from "#ShalomBollywood" - the event attended by Netanyahu.
Top bollywood stars' decision to stay away from '#ShalomBollywood' was in line with other international artists including Brian Eno and Pink Floyd's Roger Waters, writers Arundhati Roy and Eduardo Galeano and film-maker Ken Loach who have supported the cultural boycott of Israel through the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement.
Recently, noted New Zealand singer Lorde also cancelled her scheduled event in Tel Aviv after appeals by the BDS activists. More than 100 writers and artists including Angela Davis, Mark Ruffalo, Roger Waters, Alice Walker, Tom Morello and Talib Kweli extended their support to young and popular New Zealand singer.
