Bijnor (Uttar Pradesh): Bijnor Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh will see an interesting Poll Battle in 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Here Naseemuddin Siddiqui now in Congress is pitted against his former party colleague Malook Nagar of BSP.
Naseemuddin Siddiqui was the Muslim face of Kumari Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). Siddiqui became MLA in 1991 and was also a minister in Maywati's cabinet. Maywati however expelled him from the party in 2017 for what she called "anti party" activities.
Later, Siddiqui joined the Congress along with his supporters. He is currenly a member of Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council.
Bijnor is set to see a triangular contest between Naseemuddin Siddiqui of Congress, Malook Nagar of SP-BSP and Kunwar Bharatendra Singh of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP).
Kunwar Bharatendra Singh of BJP is the sitting MP from Bijnor. He won the 2014 Lok Sabha elections securing 4,86,913 votes. He had defeated Shahnawaz Rana of Samajwadi Party who got 2,81,139 votes and Malook Nagar of BSP who bagged a total of 2,30,124.
Kunwar Bharatendra Singh however faces an uphill task as SP and BSP are contesting the 2019 parliamentary elections forming an alliance. Their combined votes in 2014 is more than SIngh's victory margin.
Naseemuddin Siddiqui's candidature from Bijnor however has made the poll battle interesting. If he will play a spolier for the BSP-SP joint candidate and help the BJP's Singh or garner enough votes and support from the sizeable Muslim and Dalit votes and win will be decided only on the polling day.
Polling in Bijnor will be held on April 11 2019 in the 1st Phase of 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Counting of votes will be done on May 23, 2019.
