Hyderabad (Telangana): Sure of a victory consecutively for a 4th term, Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) Chief Asaduddion Owaisi is trying everything in his hand to improve his 2014 vote tally, and hence also the victory margin.

Asaduddin Owais had won from the Hyderabad Parliamentary Contituency first time in 2004. From 1984 to 2004 the Muslim dominated Lok Sabha seat, earlier in Andhra Pradesh and now Telangana, was represented for 06 terms from 1984 to 2004 by his father Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi.

In the 2014 General Elections, when the majority of the Lok Sabha constituencies went to the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies, people in Hyderabad retained their faith in Asaduddin Owaisi. It was the election when people say there was a "Modi wave" across the country. However, this "wave" could not make a dent in Asaduddin Owaisi's support base and he won by a huge margin of more than 02 lakh votes.

According to the final result of the 2014 Lok Sabha elections announced by the Election Commission of India, Asaduddin Owaisi polled a total of 5,13,868 votes. There was a long list of candidates - 15 plus NOTA as per the EC record, who contested against Asaduddin Owaisi. However, except for Dr. Bhagavanth Rao of BJP who got 3,11,414 votes, all other candidates, including that of the Congress and TRS, lost their deposits.

For the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the TRS has announced its support for Asaduddin Owaisi. In return Owaisi is also campaigning for the TRS candidates in other constituencies.

The BJP has fielded Dr. Bhagavanth Rao once again to take on Asaduddin Owaisi in the 2019 LS polls. The Congress has nominated Firoz Khan instead of Krishna Reddy who had unsuccessfully challenged Asaduddin Owaisi in the 2014 elections.

Having a Muslim population of more than 65%, Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency is comprised of 07 assembly seats including Malakpet, Karwan, Goshamahal, Charminar, Chandrayangutta, Yakutpura and Bahadurpura. All the 07 Assembly seats under Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat are represented by AIMIM MLAs.

Polling in Hyderabad will be held on April 11, 2019 in the first phase of 2019 General Elections. While filing his nomination papers Asaduddin Owaisi exuded confidence that he will win the Old City parliamentary seat once again.

"Hyderabad Parliamentary constituency has been the voice of India's impoverished, oppressed and weak. Inshallah, it will continue to be so," Asaduddin Owaisi tweeted after filing the papers.

Asaduddin Owaisi has been among the best performing parliamentarians in 2015. Owaisi, known for fiery speeches, was also among top performers in the monsoon session of the parliament in 2013 with 1042 questions. He also participated in 38 debates. He was also awarded 'Sansad Ratna award 2014' in 2014.
