BJP Manifesto 2019

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday released its election manifesto for the Lok Sabha polls starting April 11.

Among other things. the BJP once again promised - for nth times, to build Ram Mandir in Ayodhya at the disputed site where the historic Babri Masjid stood till December 1992 and also promised abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.

Both the promises have been part of the BJP agenda, and also its manifesto, since a long time.

"We reiterate our stand on Ram Mandir. We will explore all possibilities within the framework of the Constitution and all necessary efforts to facilitate the expeditious construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya," the BJP said.

"We will undertake every efforts to ensure that the subject of faith, tradition and worship rituals related to Sabarimala are presented in a comprehensive manner before the Supreme Court. We will endeavour to secure constitutional protection on issues related to faith and belief", it added.

Uniform Civil Code

The BJP has also included in the party manifesto for the 2019 elections drafting and implementation of Uniform Civil Code - another favourite agenda which the BJP always used for political mileage while in opposition but did nothing on its actual implementation when in power.

"Article 44 of the Constitution lists Uniform Civil Code as one of the Directive Principles of State Policy. BJP believes that there cannot be gender equality till such time India adopts a Uniform Civil Code, which protects the rights of all women, and the BJP reiterates its stand to draft a Uniform Civil Code, drawing upon the best traditions and harmonizing them with the modern times," the BJP manifesto says.

The BJP also said it intended to increase female workforce participation and ensure justice for Muslim women by enacting the law against 'triple talaq'.

The BJP manifesto also talked about the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, over which the party faces opposition from almost all its allies in the Northeast. It said the BJP would enact the bill if it returns to power after the Lok Sabha elections.

The BJP leaders also highlighted the 2016 cross-border surgical strikes and the recent air strike in Balakot by the Indian Air Force (IAF) as examples of the government's strong resolve against terrorism.
