New Delhi: Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) and Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) - two prestigious universities established by Muslims, are among India's top 20 universities, according to the Ministry of Human Resource Development 2019 ranking released Monday.
Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has been ranked 18th and Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has ranked 19th in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) Overall Ranking 2019 declared by Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India.
The NIRF was approved by the MHRD and launched by Minister of HRD in 2015. The first NIRF rankings were announced in 2016. The NIRF 2019 university rankin was released by President of India Ramnath Kovind on Monday.
Jamia Hamdard Delhi has bagged an overall rank of 31. It however is the best Pharmacy Institute in India.
The rankings are announced in 9 categories - Overall, Universities, Engineering, Colleges, Management, Pharmacy, Medical, Architecture and Law.
In Universities ranking, the NIRF 2019 Rank of AMU is 11 and tha of Jamia Millia Islamia is 12. Jamia Hamdard university ranking is 18.
AMU is also ranked 13th best in the ranking of Medical institutions. The rank of Jamia Hamdard in this category is 15.
In Engineering, the rank of Jamia Millia Islamia is 27 and that of AMU is 40. In Management category, Jamia Millia Islamia has ranked 34 and AMU has ranked 59. On the other hand, in Law Jamia Millia Islamia is 8th best in India.
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras tops the list of higher education institutes followed by Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and banars Hindu University (BHU). Seven IITs are among the education ministry's overall national ranking of higher institutes.
