Mumbai/Pune: Maharashtra early in the morning Tuesday March 24, 2020 confirmed 4 new Coronavirus cases taking the state toll to 101.

According to the state health department, 03 people were tested positive in Pune whereas 01 is diagnosed with Covid-19 in Satara. Covid-19 or SARS-CoV2 are used to identify the Coronavirus which was first detected in China's Wuhan in January this year.

The newly detected Covid-19 positive persons have travel history to Peru, UAE, and Saudi Arabia. With 101 Coronavirus positive cases and 03 deaths, Maharashtra is the worst hit state in India.

Alarmed by the rapid pace with which the virus is taking the state into its clutches, the Maharashtra government clamped curfew in the entire state.

The decision was taken after people refused to follow the health guidelines even after Sunday's Janata Curfew and imposition of Section 144 - which bars assembly of more than 04 people.

Pune and Mumbai are the two cities in Maharashtra that have reported maximum number of Covid-19 positive cases.

On Monday, Maharashtra saw the biggest single-day spurt of positive cases -- from 53 on Friday to 64 on Saturday to 74 on Sunday and 89 on Monday, the highest in the country. The tally went up to an alarming 101 Tuesday morning.

The figure shot up even as the Health Minister warned that the state stood on the threshold of a 'multiplication stage' of the virus and emphasized the need for people to maintain 'social distancing'.

Overall, India has detected 511 Coronavirus positive cases and 10 deaths as on Tuesday March 24.
