Malegaon: Amid the Coronavirus Outbreak, the entire staff of Malegaon General Hospital Wednesday stopped work after alleged altercation with Malegaon Central MLA Mufti Mohammad Ismail of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM).
The Malegaon General Hospital in a police complaint alleged that a group of people led by AIMIM MLA Mufti Ismail abused and threatened Health Officer Dr Kishor Dange and also manhandled one of the staffer.
Mustaqeem Diginity, Municipal Corporator and a close aide of Mufti Ismail who was with him at the time of the incident, on the other hand denied the allegation and accused Dr Kishor Dange and Malegaon General Hospital staff of negilgence and dereliction of duty.
"We went to Malegaon General Hospital after Dr Kishor Dange did not respond to the phone calls and SMS sent by Mufti Ismail regarding 04 beggars who were complaining of fever and cough", Mustaqeem Dignity told ummid.com.
"The 04 beggars had recently travelled to Uttarakhand and Bombay, and had returned to Malegaon this Sunday. There was panic in the area fearing that fever and cough are symptoms of Coronavirus. The area residents approached the Pawarwadi Police Station following which the station incharge took the beggars to Malegaon Gen Hospital for medical assistance. But the doctors there turned them away without any check-up", he said.
"In the meantime, we also came to know that Malegaon Gen Hospital staffer had referred 04 delivery patients to Dhule Civil Hospital. But, the patients were stopped near Zodge - some 30 kms from Dhule. Its strange why these patients were referred to Dhule amidst the lockdown?" he asked.
Mustaqeem Dignity said they also came to know that Khaleel Ahmed Mohd Shafi, arrested in an attempt to murder case of Rizwan Khan, was admitted in the hospital without any medical ground.
"Dr Dange said he admitted Khaleel Shafi based on a court order. But he failed to show any such order", Mustaqeem Dignity said, adding, "We were there in the hospital to talk on all these issues, not to fight or threaten anyone."
Video footages however show one of the accomplices of Mufti Ismail kicking and threatening a staffer of the hospital right inside the cabin of Dr Kishor Dange.
Meanwhile, angered by the incident, the entire staff is now sitting on a dharna outside Malegaon General Hospital. A team comprising of Deputy Director Nashik, District Civil Surgeon, Additional Civil Surgeon and some other senior doctors of Nashik Civil Hospital have also joined them.
"Except for the emergency and coronavirus related work, all other services at Malegaon Gen Hospital will be stopped unless a legal action is taken against the culprits and all those behind the incident are arrested", a medical officer said talking to ummid.com.
