Prayagraj (UP): AIMIM Prayagraj District President Mansoor Alam has been arrested by the police for spreading misinformation on social media about the actual deaths in India caused due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

The accused is a resident of Gajia in Jahagirabad area of Naini in Uttar Pradesh.

According to the police, Mansoor Alam posted on the social media that "The government is hiding facts. While the government figures show over 500 till now, 50,000 people have already died in the country due to COVID-19."

AIMIM is headed by Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi. The party is basically based in Hyderabad. Though it has almost no influence in other parts of Telangana except Hyderabad, Owaisi is working since 2013 to spread the party all across the country.

The party leaders are infmaous for giving irresponsible statements in an attempt to get media healdines so as to get political mileage.

The police took action against AIMIM leader Mansoor Alam after the post shared by him went viral on social media. An FIR has been registered against the accused and action is being taken accordingly.

The AIMIM leader's post went viral on the social media even as entire India is united in the fight against Coronavirus. To comply the 21-day nationwide lockdown announced by the Modi government, all Muslim organisations and sects had suspended Friday prayers.

According to the health officials, total Covid-19 infections in India is about 694 and just 16 coronavirus related deaths - as on Friday March 26, 2020 morning.
