New York: Continuing its support for the Israeli massacre of Palestinians, the United States once again stopped the UN Security Council from taking a resolution demanding ceasefire and end of the inhuman Zionist offensive in Gaza Strip.
The United States, armed with the discriminately veto power, forced the UN Security Council to amend the UEA proposed resolution calling for ceasefire in Gaza.
After about a week of negotiations, the Americans allowed the UN Security Council to pass a lame-duck resolution only when all references to ending the Israeli aggression in Gaza were removed.
Ignoring the world-wide demand, the UNSC resolution passed Friday December 22, 2023 did not have any reference to the massacre of Palestinians, making Israel accountable for war crimes or forcing the Zionists to end their aggression against the civilians in Gaza and other occupied Palestinian territories.
The latest UNSC resolution called for “increased aid delivery in Gaza”. But, the Zionist regime in Israel rejected even this toned down resolution.
The UNSC has a total of 15 members. As many as 13 UNSC members voted in favour of the resolution, none against, and the US and Russia abstaining.
Russia abstained protesting the removal of references to Israeli aggression and call for ceasefire in Gaza.
UN chief Antonio Guterres expressed satisfaction over the UNSC vote.
“The real problem is that the way Israel is conducting this offensive is creating massive obstacles to the distribution of humanitarian aid inside Gaza. An effective aid operation in Gaza requires security, staff who can work in safety, logistical capacity, and the resumption of commercial activity. These four elements do not exist,” he told reporters following the vote.
After the latest US move at UNSC, critics are accusing the Americans of a double-standard saying that they have spent months railing against Russia for violations of international law in Ukraine while providing Israel with weapons and diplomatic support, even as it faces similar accusations over its conduct in Gaza.
The Zionist military offensive in Gaza has killed more than 20,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children, since October 7, 2023.
