New Delhi: In a major relief for thousands of students currently enrolled in different Madrasa or Islamic seminaries in Uttar Pradesh, the Supreme Court of India Friday stayed the Allahabad High Court order quashing the UP Board of Madrasa Education Act.
The Allahabad High Court had on March 22, 2024 termed the UP Madrasa board “unconstitutional”. The High Court also asked the state government to shift all Madrasa students to state or CBSE affiliated schools.
The Allahabad HC verdict had left some 16,500 Madrasas running in different parts of Uttar Pradesh with no option but to shut down operations.
The Supreme Court order Friday however brought a timely relief for the Madrasa students in UP.
