Mumbai: At least 15 billionaires, including three top giants, are reportedly in the process of building what is billed as ‘5-star underground bunkers’ that are bomb-proof and will have all modern facilities including swimming pools, gyms, sauna and sports facilities.
Among the three tech giants who are building underground bunkers are Meta (formerly Facebook) founder Mark Zuckerberg, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel.
“An underground world”
According to The US Sun, Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan plan to construct a 57,000-square-foot underground bunker - roughly the size of a football ground, having its own energy and food supplies on their Kauai's Ko'olau Ranch in Hawaii.
Costing around $270 million, Zuckerberg’s underground world in Hawaii will have more than a dozen buildings with at least 30 bedrooms and equal number of bathrooms, multiple elevators, offices, conference rooms, and an industrial-sized kitchen, the Wired reported based on the design acquired by the publication.
According to a report by Time, construction and other workers on the property were reportedly made to sign strict non-disclosure agreements (NDAs).

Mark Zuckerberg is not the only billionaire who is building the underground bunker. PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel is also reportedly attempting to get a permit to build his own bunker-style lodge in South Island, New Zealand.
Though not confirmed by PayPa or other official sources, Thiel will share the proposed bunker with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, as reported by Komando.
In another report, it is claimed that at least five other richest individuals from around the globe sat with prominent author, theorist, and the City University of New York professor Douglas Rushkoff and anonymously expressed the desire to build an underground safe space, in case of an apocalypse.

Not only that but US President Joe Biden and his wife Jill Biden are also reported to have obtained permission to build a post- apocalyptic bunker on their Delaware property. Some social media users have even shared screengrab of the construction permit as evidence. These claims however have neither been confirmed nor denied by the White House.
