Ganzhou (China): China had unveiled world’s first Electric Vehicles powered by sodium-ion batteries - JMEV EV3 (Youth Edition) and Yiwei in December last, promising they will hit the roads in January 2024.
While JMEV EV3 is equipped with sodium-ion batteries supplied by Farasis Energy, Yiwei EVs will be powered by Hina Batteries – both leading battery manufacturers of China.
Both the vehicles come under the low price and low cost segment.
JMEV EV3 is finally here, and with the introduction of sodium-ion batteries, China's electric vehicle (EV) sector enters a transformative phase, marking a significant shift in battery technology.
“The JMEV EV3 (Youth Edition) sets a new standard as the world's first A00-class EV equipped with new batteries”, JMEV which has EV plant in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province of China, said.
“Offering a range of 251 km, this model caters to the dynamic needs of younger drivers, encompassing daily commuting and city-wide travel”, Jiangling Motors Group which owns JMEV brand, said.
“Farasis Energy's sodium-ion battery stands out with its combination of layered oxides and hard carbon, demonstrating impressive benchmarks in the EV battery space”, the company said.
JMEV sodium battery version starts at a price of RMB 58,800 (US $8300 roughly) with a battery capacity of 21.4 kWh and a CLTC range of 251 km, according to the new car’s specification sheet.
Meanwhile, Farasis Energy is gearing up for the next big leap in battery technology, eyeing the launch of its second-generation sodium-ion batteries in 2024.
With excellent low-temperature performance, sodium-ion batteries effectively address the low range challenge faced by EVs in colder climates.
Moreover, the safety and affordability ensure the provision of options applicable to a broader spectrum of scenarios while enhancing the user experience.
