Sydney: Gould David, a highly respected priest within the Australian Christian community and now residing in Tasmania, has embraced Islam after serving Church for 45 long years.
The news about the Christian Priest Gould David’s conversion to Islam has been shared by renowned scholar Dr Muhammad Salah of Huda TV on his Facebook page.
In the Facebook post, Dr Muhammad Salah also said that Gould David, an Orthodox Christian Priest, has changed his name to Abdur Rahman.
“After serving 45 years in Church as a respected Australian priest, Gould David has announced his conversion to Islam and changed his name to Abdul Rahman”, Dr Muhammad Salah wrote on his official Facebook page.
Gould David has also created a new Facebook page that shows his profile name as “Dave Abdur Rahman Gould”.
As profile image in his new FB page, Dave Abdur Rahman Gould has used the image of Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the background.
“A lifetime seeking the peace of God and Quran has shown me that peace & truth rest in Allah (sic)”, he wrote in Intro.
Ahmed Deedat Debates 7 in a YouTime video has summarised the timeline of Gould David’s old Facebook page.
Gould David, who used to reside in Bedford Park, South Australia, in a multiple posts on the popular social media platform described his life in Church and later when became a Muslim.
“The parish church that I am blessed to serve as priest of, and where I feel the presence of God (sic)”, he wrote in one of the posts on January 22, 2022.
In a post on June 24, 2022, Gould David, now Abdur Rahman, wrote:
“Few Greek prayers touch the heart as much as this one. Let us pray for our Greek brothers and sisters, remembering all those who were baptised, married in our church, and those fallen in asleep in Christ whose memory we must keep.”
After a series of posts preaching Christianity, he on October 13, 2023 changed his cover collage on Facebook with an image that showed a Mosque and Holy Quran.
The image posted by the former Australian Priest did not have any caption. But, on November 11, 2023 he updated his cover photo with a verse from Holy Quran.
“رَبِّ إِنِّي ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي فَاغْفِرْ لِي (My Lord, indeed I have wronged myself, so forgive me.”
Finally on December 03, 2023 the former Christian Priest in a Facebook Group post announced his conversion to Islam.
“Assalum alaikum I am a revert in Tasmania, and before that was an Orthodox Christian priest. I would welcome support and friendship as I seek to deepen my iman. I am now Abdur Rahman, aspiring to serve Allah swt (sic)”, he wrote in NMCA “New Muslim Care Association” group post.
Tasmania is an island state of Australia.
