China’s BYD replaces Tesla as world’s most popular EV maker

Austin (Texas): Major Electric Vehicle (EV) maker Tesla sold more than its projected sale in the last quarter of the year 2023. The company however fell short of the number needed to retain the world’s most popular electric vehicle crown.

In the fourth quarter, Tesla produced a total of 494,989 vehicles and delivered over 484,507 vehicles.

“In 2023, vehicle deliveries grew 38% YoY to 1.81 million while production grew 35% YoY to 1.85 million”, Tesla said in a release Tuesday January 02, 2024.

Chinese EV maker BYD on the other hand sold 526,409 fully electric vehicles in the fourth quarter, replacing Elon Musk’s Tesla as world’s no one EV maker in the world, according to Bloomberg.

Tesla 2023 Sale

Most of the year’s sales were of the Tesla Model 3 or Model Y, but the company claimed 68,874 deliveries of other vehicles, too.

Tesla produced a total of 1,775,159 Model 3/Y and delivered 1,739,707, the company said.

Tesla sold a total of 1,808,581 total EVs exceeding its target to deliver 1.8 million vehicles for the year 2023.

BYD New EV Top Choice

Delivering 41,902 more units than Tesla, BYD - which brands its vehicles as New Energy Vehicles (NEVs), is now the world's most popular EV supplier.

Founded by Wang Chuanfu in February 1995, Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD or Build Your Dream has established itself as an industry leader in electronics, automotives, renewable energy, and rail transit.

As a global leader BYD, which manufactures hybrid as well as fully electric vehicles, has more than 30 industrial parks across 6 continents.

The BYD's zero-emission solutions, focused on energy generation and storage, are expansive and widely applicable.

In December last year, the company launched two new models - BYD HAN EV and BYD ATTO 3.

The BYD ATTO 3, a C-segment trendy SUV on the e-platform 3.0, integrates intelligence, efficiency, safety, and aesthetics. With a remarkable drag coefficient of 0.29 and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds, the BYD ATTO 3 radiates a sporty and dynamic character.

The BYD HAN EV, a flagship model for BYD, boasts cutting-edge technologies and a distinctive design, merging profound Chinese culture with the expressive face of the oriental dragon.
