San Francisco: Tech giant Microsoft Thursday January 11, 2024 released Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 23615 which has a number of new features and improvements.
Top among them are the automatic opening of Copilot in some devices running on Windows 11 and USB 80Gbps support.
“We are trying out opening Copilot automatically when Windows starts on widescreen devices with some Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel”, Microsoft wrote in a blog post.
Announcing USB 80 Gbps support, the leading technology company said, "This is the first major version update of the USB4®standard and increases performance to 80Gbps from 40Gbps."
Copilot in Windows - formerly Bing Chat and Bing Chat Enterprise, is an AI-powered intelligent assistant that helps users get answers and inspirations from across the web, supports creativity and collaboration, and helps them focus on the task at hand.
Microsoft has of late came out with a number of features and improvements to make Copilot more popular.
Now it has announced that the AI tool will open automatically as Windows 11 boots up the device.
The new feature is being tested as part of Microsoft’s latest Dev Channel preview of Windows 11, allowing Windows testers to provide feedback ahead of a broader rollout.
“We’re trying this experience out on devices that have minimum diagonal screen size of 27” and pixel width of 1920 pixels and limited to primary display screens in multi-monitor scenarios”, Microsoft said.
The new changes comes days after Microsoft announced a new Copilot key for Windows PCs and laptops, which when pressed launches this same chatbot-like experience.
Laptop manufacturers like Dell and Lenovo have already unveiled laptops with the new Copilot key, and more are expected to follow in the coming months, according to The Verge.
Microsoft in the new Windows 11 Insider Preview Build also announced USB 80 Gbps support.
We are excited to announce support for the latest generation USB standard, USB 80Gbps, in this build of Windows. USB 80Gbps support will initially launch on select devices based on the Intel Core 14th Gen HX-series mobile processors, such as the new Razer Blade 18.
Razer, the leading global lifestyle brand for gamers today unveiled their latest line-up of Razer Blade gaming laptops at CES 2024, and also offered a sneak peek at the 2024 Blade 18, set to redefine the large-format gaming laptop category and which will hit markets later this year.
Explaining more about USB 80 Gbps, Microsoft said, "This is the first major version update of the USB4 standard and increases performance to 80Gbps from 40Gbps."
"It enables the next generation of high-performance displays, storage, and connectivity. It is fully backwards compatible with peripherals built for older generations of USB and Thunderbolt and works alongside all other USB Type-C features", the tech giant said.
The new Windows build also comes with Windows Share which helps users share URLs directly to WhatsApp, LinkedIn, Facebook, Gmail, X (formerly Twitter) and other social media platforms.
“For Microsoft Edge and other browsers that invoke the Windows share window, the Windows share window now supports the ability to share URLs directly to WhatsApp, Gmail, X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, and LinkedIn”, the company said.
“In Microsoft Edge, you can invoke the Windows share window by clicking the share icon at the top right in the toolbar and choosing the Windows share options”, Microsoft said.
