Riyadh: The Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawa, and Guidance Saudi Arabia has revealed that a total of 347,646 individuals have embraced Islam over the past five years.
Giving the year-wise data, the Ministry reported a consistent increase in people embracing Islam and becoming Muslim, with 21,654 in 2019, 41,441 in 2020, 27,333 in 2021, 93,899 in 2022, and escalating to 163,319 in 2023.
The Ministry further said that there 423 foreign preachers and 457 Dawah societies spread across various regions of Saudi Arabia because of whose efforts non-Muslims living in Saudi Arabia understand the virtues of Islam and then embrace the religion.
This initiative forms a key part of the Ministry's commitment to introducing non-Muslims to Islam, promoting its principles of tolerance, and addressing any misconceptions about the faith.
The Saudi Arabian population stands at 32.2 million with 18.8 million Saudi nations and 13.4 million foreigners - which make up 41.6 percent, according to the Saudi Census 2022.
Of the total population of expats living in Saudi Arabia, 25,949,47 are Indians, according to the Ministry of External Affairs, India.
The Saudi Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawa, and Guidance did not give details of non-Muslims converting to Islam based on their nationalities. But, because of such a huge number of foreigners, including Indians, residing in the Kingdom, it is believed that the vast majority of those converting to Islam must be foreigners and expats.
Expats living in other parts of the Middle East are also converting to Islam. In a report released in 2021, Mohammad bin Rashid Centre for Islamic Culture had said as many as 2,027 people of different nationalities residing in Dubai converted to Islam in six months.
