‘I beg with folded hands’: Punjab MP urges Modi, BJP not to divide society

New Delhi: In a strong appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the ruling Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress MP from Ludhiana Amrinder Singh Raja Warring Monday urged them not to divide the society on the communal lines.

Alleging Narendra Modi and the BJP leaders of indulging in the communally charged rhetoric during the 2024 Parliamentary Elections, the Ludhiana MP said the campaign damaged the communal fabric in Punjab for the first time.

“Elections have taken place in Punjab in the past too. People voted for the Congress, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Akali Dal, and to the BJP too. But, unlike in the past, the communally charged campaign in the 2024 elections threatened the communal harmony in the state”, he said in the Lok Sabha responding to the Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address.

“I beg with folded hands. Don’t talk about Hindu and Musalman. Don’t talk about mangalsutra. Don’t’ talk about qabristan. I request you don’t divide the country on communal lines”, he said.

“Mandir banta. Masjid Banti. Baant diya bhagwan ko… Sharam karo BJP walo.. mat baanto is desh ke bhoole bhaale insaan ko”, he recited the couplet before ending his speech.

Ludhiana MP Amrinder Singh Raja Warring’s appeal to BJP Monday came hours after Leader of the Opposition and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi accused the BJP and Hindutva groups of spreading hate and inciting violence in the name of Hindu religion.

“No religion whether Hinduism, Islam, Sikhism, Christianity, Buddhism… no religion propagate hate and violence. But here we see the BJP and its leaders who talk all the time about hate, hate, and hate”, Rahul Gandhi said.

While responding to the Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address, AIMIM leader and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi also referred to the communal campaign by the BJP during the 2024 elections and slammed the use of words “infiltrators” and “those having more children” used by PM Modi.

Responding to the Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address in the Rajya Sabha, RJD MP Manoj Kumar Jha also urged PM Modi and the BJP to “dilute the hatred which has taken over them”.

Reciting the poems written by Rahee Masoom Raza and Jamia Research Student Adnan Kafeel Darvesh (Varna Maare Jaoge), Manoj Kumar Jha in his speech said the Muslims are being killed and subjected to violence because of their religious identity.

"The communally charged election campaign incited division in the country. People are bieng lynched", he said adding the arrests and murder of Muslims taking place because of their religion.

Samajwadi Party (SP) Chief and MP Akhilesh Yadav while responding to the Motion of Thanks to the President's Address, said the result of the 2024 general elections indicated the end of the communal politics.

"In this election, people who intended to divide the country on communal lines have been defeated whereas those who talked about diversity, harmony and unity have emerged triumphant", he said.
