Mumbai: B. S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and Technology located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu is one among the top 10 universities in India, according to the Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings 2024 released Thursday.
Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham of Tamil Nadu is the best university in India with an overall score of 90.3 and B. S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and Technology is the 6th best university in India with a score of 79.3 to 83.90, according to the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2024.
JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research is the 2nd best, Lovely Professional University is 3rd, Manipal Academy of Higher Education is 4th, Shoolini University of Biotechnology and Management Sciences 5th, KIIT University Bhubaneswar, Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences 8th, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Gandhinagar 9th and Amity University, Gurugram is the 10th best university in India, according to the THE Impact Rankings 2024.
IIM Mumbai (previously called NITIE) is ranked under the 601-800 belt. Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), one of the top universities in India, has bagged a position in the 901-1000 rank.
Australia’s Western Sydney University has bagged the top position by scoring 99.7 overall marks followed by United Kingdom’s University of Manchester and Australia’s University of Tasmania with 98.5 overall marks.
The UK’s University of Manchester and Australia’s University of Tasmania follow in joint 2nd place.
Accredited at A Grade by India’s National Assessment and Accreditation Council, B. S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and Technology was ranked 79th among engineering colleges in the 2018 National Institutional Ranking Framework.
A survey in 2018 of India’s private engineering colleges rated BS Abdur Rahman second, with particular strength in infrastructure and in 2019 it was rated Best University by the Rubber Skill Development Council.
BS Abdu Rahman was established in 1984 as Crescent Engineering College and attained university status on its 25th anniversary and took its current name in 2017.
The university's 50-acre campus is based in what it calls "the greenest spot of Chennai", next to Anna Zoological Park.
Amrita University, adjudged the best university in India as per the THE Impact Ranking, is a multi-disciplinary private institution, located across five campuses (Coimbatore, Amritapuri, Bengaluru, Kochi, Mysore) in the states of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka.
Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeswara (JSS) Academy of Higher Education & Research, formerly Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeswara University, 2nd best as per the ranking, is an institute of higher education focussed on medical and health related studies in Mysore, Karnataka, India.

King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals of Saudi Arabia is the best in the Kingdom with an overall score of 90.3 and rank of18.
King Fahd is followed by King Faisal University, Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University, Dammam and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) Makkah.
Al Ain University Abu Dhabi is the best in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with a score of 89.8, COMSATS University Islamabad is the best in Pakistan followed by Khwaja Fareed University of Engineering and Information Technology and Allama Iqbal Open University.
Istanbul Technical University is Turkey's best with a score of 93.2 followed by Middle East Technical University and Abdullah Gul University.
Daffodil International University (DIU) is the best university in Bangladesh followed by BRAC University, United International University and International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT).
Ain Shams University is the best in Egypt followed by Mansoura University, Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport and Cairo University.
Ahlia University, Applied Science University and Gulf University are the top three universities in Bahrain whereas University of Basra, Al-Mustaqbal University, University of Baghdad and University of Babylon are the best in Iraq, according to the Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings 2024.
Qatar University is the only university of the oil rich state in the list.
Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings for 2024, analyses universities that excel across multiple United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Not only do these institutions stand out in individual areas but they also demonstrate comprehensive excellence in contributing to global sustainable development.
"By excelling in a variety of SDGs, these universities showcase their commitment to addressing the world's most pressing challenges, including environmental sustainability, social inclusion, economic growth and partnerships", the ranking body said.
THE evaluated 2,152 universities from 125 countries/regions to produce the overall Impact Ranking for 2024. The top newcomer in 2024 is France’s Institut Agro at joint 21st.
India is the most-represented country in the overall table, with 96 institutions.
