MANUU among 8 universities granted autonomy by the UGC

New Delhi: The University Grants Commission (UGC) Tuesday March 05, 2024 granted autonomy to eight central universities including Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) Hyderabad.

The move is targeted at enhancing the quality of higher education and empowering the universities to make independent decisions.

The eight university granted autonomy by the UGC are Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU), University of Delhi, University of Hyderabad, Central University of Rajasthan (Ajmer), Central University of South Bihar, Central Sanskrit University New Delhi, Central University of Punjab (Bathinda) and Central University of Himachal Pradesh (Kangra).

While University of Delhi, Central University of Rajasthan (Ajmer), Central Sanskrit University New Delhi and Central University of South Bihar have been granted Category I status, MANUU and rest 03 have been granted Category II autonomy.

The UGC granted autonomy so as to provide these universities with greater flexibility in academic, administrative, and financial matters.

While the Category I autonomy grants universities the highest level of independence, allowing them to determine their own curriculum, fee structure, and admission process, Category II autonomy means universities are given flexibility but with certain limitations set by the UGC.
