'Missile woman' Tessy Thomas conferred Shastri award

New Delhi: "Missile woman" Tessy Thomas was conferred the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award for Excellence in Public Administration, Academics and Management for 2012 by President Pranab Mukherjee Monday.

Currently project director (mission) for the long-range Agni-V system, Thomas successfully flight tested Agni-V April 19. She was project director of Agni-IV, a major project of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and successfully flight tested it Nov 15, 2011.

In a career spanning 24 years, she has contributed in various fields such as guidance, control, inertial navigation, trajectory simulation and mission design.
