Maldivian MP killed outside his home

Tuesday October 02, 2012 10:38:08 PM, IANS

Male: A Maldivian parliamentarian, belonging to former president Abdul Gayoom's political party, was found stabbed to death near his home Tuesday.

Afrasheem Ali, whose Progressive Party of Maldives was a member of the governing coalition in the Maldives, was attacked early Tuesday.

He was found dead by his wife outside their block of flats, having been stabbed four times in the back of the head and with wounds to his chest and neck, BBC reported.

Maldivian President Mohamed Waheed described Ali's killing as a "remorseless and foul act".

The president's media secretary sent out a text describing the murdered MP as the "strongest critic" of former president Mohamed Nasheed.
