Agra: A young British couple was found dead in a hotel room near Taj Mahal in India on Monday. Local police believe the duo died of drug overuse, reported DailyMail.
James Gaskell, 27, and his wife of 11 months Alexandra, 24, arrived in India in July.
According to the hotel manager, the couple had ordered dinner the previous evening at about 6.45pm but when the waiter went to deliver the food, he was not let in. The couple took the food at the door.
They were scheduled to check out the next morning. As they did not emerge by 10am, the room boy knocked at their door. On getting no response and on finding the door unlocked, he walked in only to find the couple dead and the dinner untouched.
Sleeping pills and other tablets including antidepressants and pain killers were found in the room, the police was quoted as saying.
There were also prescription drugs discovered in the room, which suggested that the woman might have had some sort of headache.
Meanwhile, Gaskell had been boasting on Twitter about his capacity to take more drugs than Americans and how in India he has eaten "an incredible amount of benzos [a sedative]".
He had also sent out another message that read: "Codeine under the counter here. With Valium, Xanax and Lyrica. Winning."
However, his mother was quoted by the website as saying that there were "conflicting reports" of his death.
The families are offered consular support.
