New Delhi: Days after recent attacks on Nigerian students, a 19-year-old German National was attacked with a sharp weapon in Geeta Colony area of Delhi on Saturday.

The victim who has been identified as Benjamin Scolt, has suffered injuries and is admitted to a nearby hospital by the police who rushed to the spot after the incident, according to media reports.

Police has registered a case and further investigation is underwy.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has asked the police to provide a report on this and best medical treatment to the victim.

"I have asked for a report on the attack on German national in Delhi. I have asked Delhi Government to provide him best medical treatment," the minister said in a tweet.

Four Nigerian students were attacked by a group of Greater Noida residents after a 17-year-old boy Manish died due to suspected drug overdose last month. The attack took place as locals alleged that the boy died after the Nigerians forced him to inhale drugs.

The incident of beating up Nigerian residents and vandalising their cars has led to outrage amongst Africans within India and raised the issue of ‘hate crime’ in the country.

The African envoys had described the attacks as 'xenophobic and racial'.
