New Delhi: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) President and Hyderabad MP on Tuesday demanded from the government to bring in a law to punish those who call Indian Muslims "Pakistanis".
Owaisi said anyone calling Indian Muslims a Pakistani - should be sent to 03 year jail term - the same punishment which the BJP government wants for a Muslim husband if he pronounces instant triple talaq.
"Bring in a law that if any Muslim is called Pakistani, the person will face three-year jail term," AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi said while participating in the debate in the Lok Sabha on the motion of thanks to the President's Address on Tuesday.
Asaduddin Owaisi demand in the Lok Sabha came days after Bareilly's district magistrate (DM) R Vikram Singh questioned the "trend" to "take out processions in Muslim localities, raise anti-Pakistan slogans and then create ruckus".
R. Vikram Singh had put up two posts on Facebook following the communal violence in Uttar Pradesh's Kasganj.
Clashes in Kasganj where a youth lost his life erupted after local Muslims who were celebrating Republic Day on January 26, 2018 were interrupted by ABVP and VHP activists.
Even as the Muslims gathered at Shaheed Abdul Hameed Chowk of Kasganj were hoisting Indian National Tricolor, ABVP and VHP activists shouting anti-Muslim slogans and asking Muslims to go to Pakistan, demanded to hoist Saffron flag.
A fact finding team later found that the Tiranga Rally, where Saffron flags outnumbered the Indian Tricolour, was deliberately taken out to disrupt peace in the town.
