Mumbai: Speculations are rife that All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) Chief Asaduddin Owaisi is most likely to contest the 2019 General Elections from Aurangabad in Maharashtra whereas Akbaruddin Owaisi, his younger brother and MLA in Telangana, will contest from Hyderabad.

Asadudduin Owaisi is representing Hyderabad Parliamentary constituency since 2014. Before him His father, Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi, represented the Muslim dominated seat in Telangana consecutively for six terms since 1984.

The buzz of Asaduddin Owaisi's switching from Hyderabad to Aurangabad became louder after Akbaruddin Owaisi filed his nomination papers from the Old City.

Asaduddin Owaisi filed his nomination papers from Hyderabad on March 18. However, two days later Akbaruddin Owaisi too filed his nomination from the same seat.

Talking to ummid.com on phone, AIMIM sources neither denied nor confirmed the reports taking round in the political circles since last 3-4 days, adding nothing can be ruled out as of now.

Asaduddin Owaisi has formed Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi with Dalit leader Prakash Ambedkar in Maharashtra. Ambedkar has earlier announced that the aghadi will contest the 2019 Parliament elections on all 48 seats of the state. Sources said AIMIM will contest 02 seats - one in Aurangabad and the other in Mumbai or Mumbai suburbs.

Asaduddin Owaisi's AIMIM has built up a formidable support base in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. In the 2014 Maharashtra Assembly elections, AIMIM won 01 seat and has lost another by a slander margin. The AIMIM also has 25 corporators in the Auarnagbad Municipal Corporation (AMC) - 05 of them are non-Muslims.

It is hence anticipated that the Vanchit Aghadi has a fair chance of winning the Aurangabad Lok Sabha seat if a strong candidate is fielded.

Polling for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in Aurangabad will be held on April 23, 2019. The counting of votes will be done on May 23. The seat, which comprises six Assembly segments Kannad, Aurangabad Central, Aurangabad West, Aurangabad East, Gangapurand Vaijapur, is currently represented by Chandrakant Khaire of Shiv Sena.
