India Coronavirus count surges past 1000 mark, death toll 27

This number also includes 86 Covid-19 patients who have been treated or discharged

India Coronavius Update March 29: India on Sunday crossed the dreaded 1000 mark of the Coronavirus positive cases in the country on the 5th day of lockdown which also saw the death of at least one migrant worker on highway.

There are a total of 1,091 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus across the country as of 10 am on March 29, 2020. This number also includes 86 Covid-19 patients who have been treated or discharged, the Ministry of Family and Health Welfare said.

The figure also includes 27 people who died due to coronavirus infection in different parts of the counrty, the ministry said.

According the Ministry, out of the total 1,091 infected, 901 are active cases, 95 people have recovered from the disease and 27 have lost their lives, while one patient migrated to another country.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said India had screened 15,24,266 passengers at airports before the inbound international flights were suspended.

5th day of lockdown

India crossed the dreaded 1000 mark on Sunday - the 5th day of the 21-day nationwide lockdown announced by Prime Minister Modi on Tuesday.

Among those infected by the novel coronavirus are also as many as 38 close family members of Baldev Singh, the 70-year-old Granthi or Religious Preacher, who died of Covid-19 - the lone deceased in Punjab.

Among the states in India which recorded new COVID-19 positive in the last 24 hours are Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Gujarat, Odisha, Kerala, Rajasthan, Punjab, Delhi, Telangana and many others. On Sunday, Delhi saw spike of 23 cases in a single day.

500 Corona Positive Cases in 04 days

Delhi saw a spike in the case with 23 new cases have been reported in the national capital, taking the total to 72. Out of this, two have died, one has migrated and give have been discharged.

Gujarat on Saturday reported 02 corona virus deaths - both in Ahmedabad, which is just kms away from the state capital Gandhinagar.

Mumbai also saw corona virus related death of a doctor working at the renowned Saifee Hospital. On the other hand with 07 more cases detected Sunday, Maharashtra total count of Covid-19 patients reached 193.

India reported 500 new cases of Corona virus positive patients in just 04 days. On March 25, the country has crossed the 500 mark.

It has also reported at least 15 more deaths since March 25 when the death toll was 10.

21-day lockdown not enough

Meanwhile, two India origina researchers of Cambridge University have suggested to the Modi government to announce a flat 49-day lockdown, as the feel, 21-day lockdown is not enough.

The paper by Ronojoy Adhikari in collaboration with Rajesh Singh from the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics at the university shows that the 21-day lockdown till April 14 that the Modi government has imposed is unlikely to be effective and "there will be a resurgence of COVID-19 at the end of it".

Sunday also saw a huge jump in the global count of Covid-19 positive patients. According to the latest updates coming from different Corona hit countries, at lease 660,000 people have been infected by the new virus and more than 30,000 people have lost their life because of it.

Another Humanitarian Crisis hits India

Even as the country is unitedly fighting the battle against Coronavirus, another humanitarian crisis hit India as tens of thousands of panicked migrant workers, some on the state transport buses and a majority on foot, left the states where they were working and embarked on a journey to their home towns.

A man is reported to have died near Agra on National Highway No 2 (NH2). A migrant worker, he was working in Delhi and was walking from Delhi to his home town in Madhya Pradesh.
