Jeddah: Dr Zakir Naik, known for his impeccable grasp on comparative religion, Tuesday June 11, 2024 arrived in Jeddah to perform Hajj as a special guest of Saudi Arabia.
Dr Zakir Naik arrived in the Kingdom accompanied by his family members.
Dr Naik is performing this year’s Hajj with his family members on the invitation of Saudi Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Dr Tawfiq Al Rabiah.
“Alhamdulillaah Dr Zakir Naik and his family have been invited for Hajj by Dr Tawfiq Al Rabiah the Minister of Hajj, Saudi Arabia”, a social media post on official X account of Dr Zakir Naik said.
“Dr Zakir Naik landed in Jeddah today early morning. Alhamdulillaah 3 officials were there to receive him at the gate of the plane”, the post said.
India born Zakir Naik is currently living in Malaysia. Naik and his family members shifted to Malaysia after local authorities filed a case of money laundering against him. Naik denies all the charges against him.
Dr Zakir Naik laways has cordial relations with the rulers of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE and other Arab states. In 2015, he was conferred King Faisal International Prize.
In 2022, Qatar Emir had invited Dr Naik to address special events on Islam organised on the sidelines of FIFA world cup.
Hajj is performed every year when hundreds of thousands of Muslims from around the world visit Makkah and the adjoining sacred places in the month of Dhul Hijjah.
Though the key ritual of Hajj is standing on the Plains of Arafat on 9th of Dhul Hijjah, Saturday June 15, 2024, the Hajj Journey will begin on June 14 when the pilgrims will embark for Mina.
The Kingdom extends invitations to Muslim leaders, scholars, academicians and renowned personalities and public figures to perform Hajj in appreciation of and as a gesture of gratitude to their services.
In order to heal the trauma the Palestinians are going through because of the Israeli war on Gaza, King Salman has also invited 2,000 family members of the Palestinian victims to perform Hajj this year as special guests.
A couple of days before, videos of Interior Minister of Afghanistan and key Taliban leader Sirajuddin Haqqani performing Tawaf was widely shared on social media platform X, Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.
Reports that Sania Mirza, Indian Tennis star who quit from playing last year, will also be performing Hajj this year was read with much interest.
