‘Arre sun lo koi’: Father wails, mother faints as UPSC aspirant denied entry

In a heart wrenching incident, mother of a UPSC Civil Services aspirant fainted while her father frantically wailed for attention after their daughter was denied permission to sit in the CSE Prelims 2024 for late arrival Sunday June 16, 2024.

The whole incident is recorded on camera.

“Arre sun lo koi”, the father, holding the iron gate of the exam centre with both hands, repeatedly screamed but failing to get any attention from the concerned staff.

The incident reportedly took place at S.D. Adarsh Vidyalaya, Sector 47, Gurugram.

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducted the Civil Services Preliminary Exams 2024 on Sunday June 16, 2024.

Though the UPSC is yet to make official figures public, it is estimated that close to 13 lakh candidates from different states of the country appeared for the first stage of the Civil Services Exams.

The paper was held in two sessions. The first session started at 09:30 AM. As per the instructions written on the hall ticket, reporting time was half an hour before the exam start time.

According to Sakshi, a social media user who shared the video on X, originally launched as Twitter, the unnamed civil services aspirant came at the exam centre around 09:00 AM. She was however not allowed to sit in the exam for late arrival.

Shocked by the exam centre decision, the mother fainted and fell on the ground right in front of the college gate. Unconscious, she can be heard saying:

“I won’t go….. I won’t go…”

The father of the girl student on one hand tried to solace his wife and on the other repeatedly appealed the exam centre staff to pay attention and allow his daughter in.

“Aik saal barbaad ho gaya babu…”, he broke down.

In the whole episode, the grit and courage of the Civil Services aspirant was remarkable. She not only consoled her parents but did not lose her compose.

“Papa! paani piyo. Kyun aise kar rahe ho? Papa, hum agli baar de denge. Kuch aisi baat nahi hai (Papa, please have water and calm down. Why are you behaving like this? I will appear for the exam next year. It’s not a big deal),” the aspirant is heard saying in the video.

When her father said, “Ek saal gaya baabu hamara (A year has been wasted),” she replied:

“Koi baat nahi! Naa umar nikali jaa rahi (It’s not a big deal. I am still young).”

The exam centre’s decision not to allow the girl even as she came before 09:30 AM as claimed is surprising as others who appeared in the exam said the half an hour before the exam reporting time is mere a guideline, not a rule.

“I saw a candidate coming in my block at 09:25 AM, just 05 minutes before the exam start time”, he told ummid.com on the condition that his identity is not revealed.

Meanwhile, the girl candidate is hailed online for remaining strong.

“Respect for his daughter to be strong in this condition”, a social media user wrote commenting on the viral video.

“A good UPSC candidate she didn’t lose her calm seeing her mother crying but sad for the crying aunty,” another user wrote. Watch the video below:
