NEET UG 2024: Arrested medical aspirants confess to receiving leaked paper

NEET UG 2024: At least two medical aspirants, who appeared in NEET UG 2024 exams but later arrested by Bihar police have confessed to receiving leaked paper a day before the medical entrance exam.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) had conducted on Sunday May 05, 2024. Close to 24 lakh students from India and abroad wrote the eligibility entrance exam for admission to MBBS, BDS, BUMS, BHMS, BAMS and other medical and paramedical courses.

Allegations of NEET Paper Leak

Allegations that the NEET UG 2024 paper was leaked levelled on the day of the exam itself. The NTA however refuted all such claims.

But, the issue of NEET paper leak, and malpractice and irregularities in the medical entrance, re-surfaced after Gujarat police arrested an exam centre incharge and his aides who promised the candidates help in the exam, and Bihar police arrested some candidates and their associates suspecting them to be involved in NEET paper leak case.

On Thursday June 20, India Today published confessional statements by medical aspirants Anurag Yadav and Abhishek Kumar.

In the confessional letter written in Hindi, the two said they had received the NEET UG 2024 paper a day before the exam.

Anurag Yadav also said he was provided with the leaked question paper of the NEET exam, along with the answers.

A letter by Abhishek Kumar's father, Awdhesh Kumar, admitted to bribing some officials to get his son to pass the NEET exam, India Today said in its report.

"I signed a blank cheque for them a year back. Two blank cheques from my account were handed over to Yadavendu in return for passing my son in the NEET exam," Awdhesh Kumar wrote in his letter.

Meanwhile, students demanding cancellation of NEET UG 2024 have intensified their stir. On Thursday, Congress party and its student wing called for two-day nationwide protest demanding re-examination of NEET UG entrance exam.

SC Hearing on NEET UG Petitions

A number of petitions have also been filed in the Supreme Court and at least three High Courts demanding the court’s intervention to provide justice to the students.

During a hearing on one of the petitions Thursday, the Supreme Court stayed proceedings in petitions filed in Rajasthan, Calcutta and Bombay High Courts regarding the alleged paper leak and discrepancies in the NEET-UG 2024, according to Live Law.

The Ministry of Education had earlier invalidated the grace marks awarded to 1,563 students who appeared for NEET UG 2024 at a centre in Haryana.

Amidst the intensifying protests against the NTA over NEET UG 2024, the exam conducting authority suffered a major blow when the Education Ministry announced to cancel UGC NET June 2024 exam held on June 18, 2024.
