Kolkata: Trinamool Congress Party (TMC) has fielded Cricketer Yusuf Pathan against Congress leader and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, to contest in the 2024 Parliamentary Elections.
At the same time, the Trinamool Congress Party (TMC) also announced that it will contest the 2024 Lok Sabha polls alone and without any alliance.
Interestingly, TMC President Mamata Banerji is one of the founders of the INDIA alliance. The party however now said it will not have any alliance in the upcoming 2024 General Elections.
The Trinamool Congress Sunday confirmed the names of the party candidates for all of the 42 seats in West Bengal.
Cricketer Yusuf Pathan will contest from the Baharampur Lok Sabha seat, a seat which Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has won five times.
The TMC has also fielded its former MP Haji Nurul Islam From the Basirhat Lok Sabha seat, where Sandeshkhali is situated. Basirhat Lok Sabha seat is currently represented by actress Nusrat Jahan. Sandeshkhali is recently in news for violence between the TMC and BJP/RSS workers.
Besides Yusuf Pathan and Haji Nurul Islam, the Trinamool Congress has also fielded other Muslim candidates who are Shahnawaz Ali Raihan (Malda South), Khalilur Rehman (Jangipur), Abu Teher Khan (Murshidabad), Sajdah Ahmed (Uluberia) and Sujata Khan (Bishnupur).
The TMC has also fielded sitting MP and the party's firebrand leader, Mahua Moitra, from the Krishnanagar Parliament seat.
The TMC had won 22 of the 42 seats of West Bengal in the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections. The BJP had won 18 seats and the Congress had won 02 seats.
