Mauritania refutes reports of Hajj flight crash

Nouakchott: Mauritania has refuted the reports claiming a Hajj flight carrying pilgrims from the country has crashed in Red Sea.

Saying the reports of Hajj plane crash are false, Mauritania’s Director of Hajj at the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, El Waly Taha, said that all Mauritanian pilgrims are safe and have arrived in the Holy lands without any untoward incident.

El Waly Taha's statement came after some reports circulating on social media claimed "Mauritanian Hajj Flight Crashes into Red Sea: 210 Pilgrims Feared Missing".

All these reports have now been officially refuted by the authorities.

"All our flights safe"

Mauritania Airlines confirmed that three scheduled flights on May 23, 24 and 25 safely transported all pilgrims to Makkah.

"We operated three outbound flights for this year’s Hajj season and all three reached their desired destination safely", the airlines said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia Ministry of Haj and Umrah said more than 1 million pilgrims from around the world have arrived in the Kingdom to perform Hajj.
