Serving Pilgrims: Story of Tabuk Volunteers

Tabuk: The tradition of serving pilgrims is centuries old and was taken as a duty by different tribes in Makkah, mainly the Quraysh tribe, the custodian of the Holy Kaaba to which Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his ancestors also belonged.

The Arab ancestors have passed this tradition to their children who take special efforts and utmost care to serve Pilgrims – the visitors of Makkah, Madinah and other Holy Sites. Their endeavor reaches peak especially during the Holy Month of Ramadan and the annual Hajj Season. The Volunteers of Tabuk however have taken the tradition of serving pilgrims to new height.

Male and female volunteers from Tabuk Region have tirelessly served arriving pilgrims in Pilgrims City at the Halat Ammar border crossing, traveling over 200 kilometers round-trip daily from Tabuk City to join field teams delivering exceptional services to pilgrims.

These efforts exemplify Tabuk's strong community commitment and reflect the vital role of volunteer work in Saudi society, as well as highlight the Saudi leadership’s care for Hajj pilgrims from arrival through departure.

The volunteers perform their duties with precise organization and continuous coordination alongside relevant government and service agencies.

Their responsibilities include managing pilgrim movement, providing guidance, distributing meals and water, and supporting medical and ambulance teams.

Despite the considerable distance they travel, their steadfast dedication reflects the values of compassion and selflessness, demonstrating a profound commitment to serving pilgrims coming to the Kingdom from all around the world.

Hajj is the annual ritual performed by around 2 million Muslims coming to Saudi Arabia from different parts of the world.

As per the Saudi Ministry of Haj and Umrah, more than 1.2 million foreign pilgrims have already arrived in the Kingdom as on May 28, 2025.

The Saudi Royal Court has confirmed that, the key ritual of Hajj, Standing on the Plains of Arafat, will be observed on Thursday June 05, 2025. This is a day before celebration of Eid al Adha.
